It was a night of celebration last Tuesday, as Norton Folgate won the ‘Refurbished/Recycled Workplace’ award at the BCO National Awards.
Norton Folgate is a mixed-use scheme for British Land, comprising six buildings across three sites, each varying in scale. The development refurbished, extended, and introduced new structures to deliver 30,000 ft² of retail space and 300,000 ft² of office space—all while preserving the character of the existing and surrounding architecture.
Designed collaboratively by four architectural practices AHMM, Stanton Williams, Morris + Company, and DSDHA—each building features a unique blend of new-build and retained elements. EAST served as the landscape architect across the development.
We provided cost management services for this net-zero embodied carbon scheme, offering specialist advice from inception through our engineering services and façade teams.
As the British Council for Offices noted:
“Norton Folgate was crowned Best Refurbished/Recycled Workplace for transforming three underused and vacant buildings on the edge of the City into a vibrant mixed-use development that showcases the meticulous restoration of historic structures dating from the late 1800s.
By integrating these with thoughtfully designed, BREEAM Excellent-rated new constructions, the project maintains the architectural integrity of the Elder Street Conservation Area while offering a variety of office spaces tailored to different business needs, alongside retail and leisure facilities.
Through its sensitive architectural approach, strong ESG commitments, and enhancement of public spaces, the project fosters economic and social vitality, setting a new benchmark for sustainable urban regeneration.”
We’re also proud to share that Hilson Moran’s London office, the Living Lab, was highly commended in the Projects up to 2,500m² category. We provided cost management services for this adaptation of a Grade II listed building, converting one floor (approx. 13,000 ft²) from a Cat A to Cat B fit-out. The project embraced circular economy principles, resource-efficient solutions, and high-performance environmental strategies throughout.
Our very own Victoria Caines also presented the award for the BCO Regional Award 2025 in the Projects up to 2,500m² category, which was won by The Englefield Estate Yard project.
