TTa team returns after a successful week at MIPIM 2024

The team is back in the office after a successful week in Cannes for MIPIM 2024, where they caught up with old friends and made new connections. As always, it was great to see so many faces discussing some of the latest and most important topics shaping the construction industry now and into the future.

This year’s event felt busier and more vibrant than previous years. There were signs of optimism returning as the previous 18 months of uncertainty, driven by interest rate rises, rapid inflation, and numerous black swan events both at home and internationally, may be easing.

Other key takeaways include:

  • Lots of talk of ‘green shoots’ in the development world; there is undoubtedly appetite to get on with things!
  • There is a requirement for a single point of truth regarding what a net zero building means. How is this valued, what tangible benefit does it bring, and what are the full implications of such a request from a design perspective?
  • Tied into the above, it also appeared that clients understand the market fluctuations in material costs but are struggling to assess the value of the carbon impact on their buildings and how this transfers into rental income.
  • Retrofit is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, and rightly so, but there needs to be an acceptance that it’s not ‘one-size fits all’.
